HARPY UPDATE: Well the triumphant gods of rock-n-roll must have smiled down on the Harpy clan because our gallant search for a suitable drummer has finally come to it's optimal conclusion...thank God... The newest Harpite to enter the fray is none other than LI's own Tony Scotto. Believe me, it was an exhausting ordeal: numerous auditions, DNA samples, urine cultures, credit checks...you name it. And not to slight the many who auditioned -- some mighty fine players offered their time and energy. Geez! We went as far as Boston on this search! I must thank the many who came to play and taste the madness which is Harpy, but when the dust settles, only one can stand. So now that Tony's here, back on course. We're hoping to be ready and primed for all Harpy fans by the end of the 2003 year. Look here for regular updates on our progress. Now read what people have to say about John's music: I got your song yesterday (Heart on a Sleeve), but could not play it in the office. I listened to it when I got home last night. I absolutely love it! I mean it. It's my favorite of yours, for now. A lot more than nifty! I want a CD so I can blast it on my stereo. Crescendo might be the first step to John's return to the rock stage, because as it clearly proves, his voice is still there and he still has many more things to say. I hope that Blanco gets some attention from the public and media for this venture - enough to encourage him to return to the forefront with a real band behind him. Excellent job. I'm not ashamed to say "Soul of Ryan" made me cry, especially since I know the story behind it. It also occured to me that "One of Mine" is in a similar vein, very emotional. Its really great to hear a real vocalist again, with lyrics I can understand. Okay, I just listened to your new track (A Little Ain't Enough) about four times. Boy, you've gone leaps and bounds in the production department. Great overall sound, mix, pans, effects, keyboard sounds. Great blend of keyboards with guitars. Percussion was top notch. And what a vocal production, indeed. And trust me, I'm not slighting your other stuff...Your songs either tug on my heart, or on my balls. Thank you very much for reaching out to this 'vagabond heart'. I greatly appreciate your good thoughts and support. This experience has been challenging and the support you and others have shown me has kept me going. The song is wonderful and your voice sounds great. You'll never be a 'has been' rock and roller in my mind! Vagabond Heart has a great mix of synthesized tracks and layers. It is a nice change of pace to hear a song of actual substance with some real vocal dynamics that can hold your attention for more then the generic 95 seconds. Pardon my French, but WHAT A KICK ASS MUTHAFU%&ING PIECE OF HIGH ENERGY ROCK N ROLL!!! I poured my first cup of strong coffee this morning and piped your song through the theater system...I sat there like the guy in the chair in the Maxell ads, my hair blowing back...The whole feel of the song (To the Boundary Mosaic)is of immediacy, something really really big, some thing exciting, something horrible...The 'first person' you-are-there lyrics express an apocalyptic vision. The end passage: "Do ya know the place, are ya goin' down that way? They say, it looks like Judgment Day," is an obvious allusion to Ground Zero, but also to a post Armageddon place of spiritual reckoning, a portend to the end times. It's extremely poignant. And of course there's that angelic voice....
