Hello and welcome. My name is Ricky Riccardi (yes, that is my real name) and welcome to the official Ricky Riccardi and the Goodfellas mp3 site. We're a tried and true jazz band, playing swinging, stomping music around the Ocean Couny, NJ area for the past five years. For more information about seeing us, booking us or obtaining our CD, write to rrtrio@aol.com. For now, though, enjoy.

the highlight of the CD, the one moment everything builds up to. Conventional wisdom would tell most bands to keep their songs to two or three minutes, but conventional wisdom could be wrong. We let it all out here, nearly nine minutes of ecstasy. Vince's solo is right on target, while Lenny dips into his Gene Krupa bag for his two outings. As for myself, let's just say my right hand was bleeding by the time the song ended. |

This is the classic standard by George and Ira Gershwin. This is a perfect example of our "big band" style of playing. We might only be three people, but we come on like sixteen men swinging by the end of this one. Listen to the last four choruses for an example of what I mean. The piano riffs along like a bold trumpet section while the guitar comps away furiously, filling in all the cracks. Then after a creative remolding of the melody by the piano, it's time for one more chorus of riffing. Listen closely and you can hear the crowd responding enthusiastically towards the end. This is what they would have called a "hot" performance back in the day. |

Here's proof that we're just not a hit-em-over-the-head-style band. While we can swing hot and stomp with the best of them, we also have our tender side, displayed perfectly on this Hoagy Carmichael classic. It's only three choruses, but they tell a story. Carmichael's melody is one of the most beautiful ever created, so the piano doesn't even have to deviate much from it to get the point across. The second chorus though was performed with the looming figure of Lester Young in mind. The tenor saxophonist never recorded this song, but his influence haunts almost everything we perform, including this one. |
