This is the classic standard by George and Ira Gershwin. This is a perfect example of our "big band" style of playing. We might only be three people, but we come on like sixteen men swinging by the end of this one. Listen to the last four choruses for an example of what I mean. The piano riffs along like a bold trumpet section while the guitar comps away furiously, filling in all the cracks. Then after a creative remolding of the melody by the piano, it's time for one more chorus of riffing. Listen closely and you can hear the crowd responding enthusiastically towards the end. This is what they would have called a "hot" performance back in the day. |
