John Marshall Carter is a singer/songwriter/guitarist whose music has been inspired by such diverse artists as The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Lovin' Spoonful, The Tams, Bobby Vee, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, among others. Carter's music is an eclectic blend of folk, rock, country, and folk-rock. John Marshall Carter is a poet, historian, and fiction writer as well as a solo performer. He has played in numerous folk-rock and rock bands including The Wampus Cats, Kaleidoscope, The Five Forks Folk-Rock Ensemble, and The Missing Links. Many of his songs speak directly or indirectly to his growing up in Leaksville, North Carolina. His "The Ballad of Leaksville,Spray, and Draper" is a lamentation of those three towns' demise in 1967 as they were consolidated to form Eden, North Carolina. The keyboards sound like they're played all right, but the overall sound is pretty low-budget - I think you've done some nice work here considering that you probably did this whole thing on one keyboard. The melody is catchy enough - not rocking my world, but certainly has promise. The chord progression isn't too imaginative, but it seems to work ok with the melody.
