Story Behind the Song
Although I set the song to a quasi-beguine beat, the setting is the Dan River in Leaksville, North Carolina. During numerous summers, teenagers dived into the Dan for relief from the heat. The singer reflects on those fun times of long ago and the lady who was a part of the scene.
Lyrics
My lady, of the Dan,
In the July sun we can get so tan,
My lady, of the Dan,
we can go skinny dipping, skinny dipping again.
My lady, of the Dan,
I wanna, wanna, wanna be your man
My lady of the Dan,
Walking through the red brown sand
You are my everything,
You are the flowers that bloom in spring
But you're not here with me
And I'm not with you I'm so blue,
OO I'm so blue, oo I'm so blue, oo I'm so blue
My lady, of the Dan
Wishya, wishya, wishya you would come again
My lady, of the Dan
In the July sun we can get so tan
My lady, of the Dan
I wanna, wanna, wanna be your man
My lady, of the Dan
In the July sun we can get so tan
You are my everything
You are the flowers that bloom in spring
But you're not here with me
And I'm not with you I'm so blue
OOO, I'm so blue, OOO I'm so blue,
OOO, I'm so blue
La la la la la, la la la la la........
