This is for everyone who needs a little more optimism (we all do!), In the spirit on Carlton Ave, this composition features nylon guitar and a smokin rhythm section. Subtle nuances and as always a handful of surprises in the form. |

Debacle is based around a series of Monet paintings depicting the breaking of ice floes on the Seine River (c.1887). Created during lean financial times for Monet (he and his family were living in a farm house south of Paris with another family, the Hoschede's) the paintings reveal how Monet's brush technique had evolved from intricate personal representations to wide, crisp strokes depicting large objects. The relationship between Monet and Alice Hoschede was scandalous, bittersweet, and unlike Alban Berg's relationship with Hanna Fuchs, romantically triumphant. Programmatic by nature, Debacle deals with Monet's ostricization of Parisian society because of his relationship with Alice Hoschede. Aside from the programmatic associations, the work is humbly dedicated to renowned Bartok scholar, Elliott Antokoletz. |

This is the introduction of the love story (tete a tete) of Shakespeare's Beatrice and Benedik (from Much Ado about Nothing). Beatrice (clarinet) is prissy and arrogant and Benedik (cello) is a hopeless romantic who wears his heart on his sleeve. Listen to the way the themes interact - probing and full of sarcasm. |

This electro-acoustic work features excerpts taken from the ancient Japaneese poet
Yamanoue no Okura. I chose this poem because
of its Buddhist inspiration and subject
matter: cyclic human exsistence and the
binding chains of karma. In keeping with
this view point, the form if the piece is
a loose sonata rondo (ABACDA). All sounds
are acoustic in origin and are developed
through "reincarnation".
