Ride combines Pink Floyd's cerebral word chains, Led Zeppelin's complex song structures, Ben Fold's piano, jazzy undertones, and Chris Cornell's (Soundgarden) inflections. As with many songs on "Black of a Friday Night", Solitary Street's debut CD, Ride's intimate and immediate sound appeals directly to you; the song is a couple of notches more interesting than the current alternative/progressive mainstream and it makes the song a rewarding experience. The recording itself is crisp and well balanced if only a little bit heavy on the reverb. |
