Artist description
It is genuinely surprising for a band that claims its musical ancestry ranging from Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin to Soundgarden and Korn to produce such a restrained and thoughtful collection of songs. But on a second listen it starts to unravel on you: Floyd's cerebral word chains, Zepp's complex song structures, Korn's rage (quite subdued here, but nevertheless pronounced), and Soundgarden's (Chris Cornell's that is) inflections. Yet comparing this band to any of the big boys is a futile exercise - the Solitary Street's intimate and immediate sound appeals directly to you - right here, right now. The songs are a couple of notches more interesting than the current adult/progressive rock mainstream and it makes this album a far more rewarding experience. The recording itself is crisp and well balanced if only a little bit heavy on the reverb. To summarize: a band can hardly have more successful debut than this one and I highly recommend this CD to anyone looking to step off the beaten path and forward. |
