Somewhere around 1990, before Mendin Fences was born, before I had ever mustered up the nerve to sing in front of a solitary person, I wrote my first poem. As a child, I wrote stories but I had never written a poem until that time. I t was not too long after that that I wrote my first song.
The first songs that I wrote were songs for my family and they were all from my heart. It did not matter to me if they were commercial enough, because I was not writing them for anyone else except the ones that I love.
The first song that I wrote was for my wife, Vickie. It started out as a poem and then I turned it into a song and recorded it for her as a gift on the Christmas before our son Brodie was born. After that, I started writing more for my other family members, and then some just for the fun of it.
You see, for me, writing is very therapeutic, so if you look deep enough you will find a little piece of me in each one of these songs. I like to refer to my writings as reflections because they always seem to reflect how I am feeling at the time that I write them.
A few of the songs were written with a good friend of mine named Jordan Moore. Jordan was enlisted in the Air Force and we became good friends when we met at work. Jordan and I used to get together once a week to write songs and talk about things. Some of these songs are simply my voice and Jordans guitar playing, while the others that I recorded have a full studio band behind them.
The songs on this CD are not a representation of Mendin Fences, I wrote and recorded them all about ten years ago.
All of these songs were originally recorded onto cassette tapes and then to CD, so the quality may not be the best, but I am sure that you will enjoy them just the same.
So it is for you, my friends and family, that I present this simple collection of my first writings and recordings.
