    Story Behind the Song
This was the first song that I ever wrote. It started out as a poem that I had written for my wife Vickie. Vickie and I had been married a short time when she became pregnant with our son Brodie. Christmas time was approaching and I wanted to do something special for her. So I met someone that owned a recording studio and I approached him with the idea of recording a song for Vickie. I showed him the poem that I had written for her and asked him if he would guide me through the process of making it into a song. I also explained that I had never sang in front of anyone, much less recorded a song. With his guidance and assurance, he helped me rewrite and record Vickies Song.
I gave it to her that Christmas in a walkman tape player that I had bought for her. It turned out to be a great Christmas present and the beginning of my song writing and recording.
This is the actual song as it was recorded onto a cassette tape circa 1991.

    Lyrics
He once was wild and crazy
Livin life like a night on the town,
    Out of control it seemed
    Wouldnt let himself slow down.
To the eye he seemed content
Much too happy to feel any pain,
But he was nothin more than a runaway bronc
With no one to take the reigns.

But the Good Lord was a watchin
Like He does over one and all,
And He will put someone in the saddle
So we neednt take a fall.

Then he met a worthy woman
One night out on the town,
She took to the saddle like a champ
To try to settle this wild one down.
She hung on for the ride
Though at times she was almost thrown,
Soon enough that wild old bronc was broke
And they made themselves a home.

But the Good Lord was a watchin
Like He does over one and all,
And He put her in the saddle
So he neednt take a fall.

Now the fire in him is harnessed
Hes slowed his pace down to a trot,
No need to be out buckin
He likes the fact that hes been caught.
When he figured it couldnt get better
This new life was just his style,
The Lord blessed their lives again
In the form of a baby child.

But the Good Lord was a watchin
Like He does over one and all,
And He put that baby in the saddle
So they neednt take a fall.

Where the road ahead may lead
The Good Lord can only say,
So theyll ask God each night for his guidance
And count their blessings every day.

But the Good Lord was a watchin
Like He does over one and all,
So they put Him in the saddle
So they neednt take a fall.

But the Good Lord was a watchin
Like He does over one and all,
So they put Him in the saddle
So they neednt take a fall.
