"This one's called 'Untitled.'" Hardy har-har. This one started out at a very slow tempo, and one day at Tin Pan Alley we just had a crack at it at about double speed. It toally rocked, especially the bass solo at the end. It didn't catch fire right away though. But with each live performance (hilarious fun because all the parts were written for a slow tempo so we all could BARELY keep up each time), the fan approval made us realize there was no going back, and so the up-tempo version ended up on the record. Lo and behold, our radio promotions team picked it as a stress track, so this quirky experiment is getting national college airplay right now! --JV

Of the 13 songs on The Miracle Vending Machine, five were older songs that we had played live but had not yet recorded and eight were brand new songs that were written specifically for MVM. There really wasn't much time for the new songs to develop, as we were on a tight schedule; in fact, there wasn't even time to learn all of these songs. We never had the chance to learn Too Much Luck. When it came time to record, Jeff approached me in the recording room with his acoustic guitar and we quickly ran through the song a half dozen times. And that was it. Too Much Luck was recorded without ever being rehearsed, after having been learned half an hour prior to its recording. All things considered, I'm quite pleased with Too Much Luck, and I enjoy the relaxed reggae feel it has, which is a definite departure for us. --JS
