Of the 13 songs on The Miracle Vending Machine, five were older songs that we had played live but had not yet recorded and eight were brand new songs that were written specifically for MVM. There really wasn't much time for the new songs to develop, as we were on a tight schedule; in fact, there wasn't even time to learn all of these songs. We never had the chance to learn Too Much Luck. When it came time to record, Jeff approached me in the recording room with his acoustic guitar and we quickly ran through the song a half dozen times. And that was it. Too Much Luck was recorded without ever being rehearsed, after having been learned half an hour prior to its recording. All things considered, I'm quite pleased with Too Much Luck, and I enjoy the relaxed reggae feel it has, which is a definite departure for us. --JS |

Lyrics
Too Much Luck
she calls me up
shes a size D cup
says we gotta get together real soon
for two weeks straight
on every date
Im looking for a man in the moon
too much too much for one person to bear
dumb cluck in luck with plenty to share
not entirely sure whats going on here
if youre not used to miracles you ought to stand clear
so in the park
Im with my loan shark
he told me that it wasnt my day
guess what I found
just blowing around
he took donations and he went on his way
too much too much for one person to bear
dumbstruck with luck and plenty to spare
you can ruffle my feathers, see if I care
if youre not used to miracles, stand over there
in the bridge you might hear about how I pissed it away
or pushed it too far or locked my keys in the car
and it rained on my head or I was taken for dead
in fact its nothing like that Im even sorry to say
cause Im where its at Im Mr. King For A Day
lazy when I tread but in line at the head
just a spoiled brat fed cat Jeeves, Ill have it on the silver tray
too much too much for a person to bear
first prize bullseyes every booth at the fair
brand new trophy each sitting right on my shelf
makes me so happy have to do myself
she calls me up
shes a size D cup
says her husbands back from Cancun
for two weeks straight
I come home late
Im looking for a man in my room
too much too much for one person to bear
dumb cluck in luck and plenty to spare
luck is all gone, it was worth it I say
the memories surely make the pain go away
