"Gracious Hiway" is a perfect encapsulation of A to Z... within the framework of a blazingly joyful "pop tune" we have: 1)- vocal sections 2)- sampling (or injection) cameos, and 3)- instrumental sections with many of those moments of "highly produced spontaneity". Dave seems to think "Gracious Hiway" is like a modern cross between a very sectional Duke Ellington boogie-opus, and a Steve Miller guitar work-out. Its overall structure of - open/build/stretch-out/climax/& coda - is an approach Dave has revisited frequently, and he’s always pleased if he can strike that balance between "packed with head-candy fun" while not being overloaded with spazzy-jazz. |
