Artist History
In the early nineties, the Hieroglyphics Ensemble recorded two albums for the Antillles label: Sings of Life and Jodoji Brightness. The band also opened for the Grateful Deadand appeared at major festivals in the U.S. and abroad. Apfelbaum has also worked with Cecil Taylor, Nana Vasconcelos, Phish, Francisco Aguabella, O.J. Ekemode and the Nigerian All-Stars, and the lat Jim Pepper, among others, and is a member of fellow HieroglyphJai Uttal's Pagan Love Orchestra. As a composer, he has written pieces for the Kronos Quartet, the Bay Area Jazz Composer's Orchestra and the National SwedishRadio Orchestra. In recent years, he has presented his music with smaller groups in addition to th4e Hieroglyphics Ensemble, most often with the sextet featured on the CD Luminous Charms. |
