Artist History
For those unfortunate enough to exist in Sydney during the years prior to Shamosaurus, some may have come across a turgid little trio named Crank, quietly going about the business of annoying lighting men and sound people across the great city. They were, in truth, Brett John, Michael Kirumba, and Thomas Edison, who had grownweary of falsifying evidence in the name ofscience.Crank produced two little gems for demos, both adhering to the philosophy that was to serve Shamosaurus so well...never re-recording a take, no matter how crappy. They enjoyed the same cheapand nasty equipment, the same wretched little microphones. Although the guy that owned the mobile recording system used for the demos did look alot like Steve Shelley from Sonic Youth. Who, by the way, have never even heard of Crank, much to their distress. Probably. The demos were full of majestic ditties, such as Umbrella Man, Frank and Daring, and Weather and Flannel, the lullaby that rocked little old ladiesto sleep nightly.Crank, through some weird quirk of fate, and theoverlooking of non-existing talent, managed to get a proper manager, who wasn't even related!!! She worked very hard, and got the band great showswith bands like Headache, the Wendells, and even Nursery Crimes. Thankfully, Crank played like snot, and sunk without a trace. The man from Waterfront records did like the Shafted demo, however. Before Crank, there was a band of four, and they were not the Beatles.Enough said. |
