Artist History
A talented and versatile singer/songwriter and producer, Shawn is a classically trained musician who can best be thought of as an intellectual chameleon. Having received a B.A. in Theory And Composition, Shawn enjoys writing and singing in a variety of styles yet maintains his vision of creating innovative music and thought provoking lyrics. Additionally, Shawn is a one man band - he can play piano, synthesizer, a little bit of drums and percussion. Aside from his musical pursuits, Shawn is also a very creative broadcaster. He's been at New York radio station WBAI 99.5 FM since 1994, and since 1997 he's been producing, hosting and engineering a series of monthly specials entitled Rock On. The series focuses on various aspects of the music industry - specifically the genres of Pop and R&B. Due to the favorable response the series received, it returned to WBAI's schedule in December of 1998 with a second volume of specials. You might be surprised to know that for the last show in volume 2 which aired December 3, 1999, Shawn featured 3 of the most popular artists of MP3.Com - Kathy Fisher (whose song "I Will Love You" was the #1 Song of 1999 on the Pop and Rock Songs chart), Sean Fitzpatrick (whose song "Home Tonight" was spotlighted in the Features section of MP3.Com's R&B chart in October 1999), and Donovan Duke (whose song "Just Lay Back" was at #1 for a record setting 21 days on the R&B chart and came in at #18 for 1999 on MP3.Com's Urban/R&B chart). One of the outgrowths of doing this series is that Shawn met Shelley Pinz, the co-writer of the 1968 #1 Pop hit, "Green Tambourine". And the two of them have written a song called, "Where Has The Magic Taken You?" that they are shopping around for someone to record. Naturally, all inquiries will be considered. As for his series Rock On, he's decided to continue it with a 3rd volume after having received numerous requests to do so. Rock On Volume 3 premiered December 29, 2000. Shawn's also focusing on his music and trying to learn as much as possible about the creative as well as the business side of the music industry. Stay tuned, the future's looking very bright indeed for this gifted and enterprising musical artist! |
