Artist History
Rumored to have been spontaneously generated from a potentially lethal organic miasma generated from the biological decomposition of stale coffee grounds, high-test beer, cigar butts and leftover Indian takeout.Sings, plays guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and pretty much anything else he can get his hands on.Writes and produces songs in the dark, dank environs of Irascible Productions, USA.Megalomaniac freak with a studio jones?Yeah, probably. But wait, there's more:This man with a known aversion to sunlight has finally surfaced with his debut album, Smirk, on Grab Bag Records. This long playing digital platter was written, produced, and performed by Mr. Stanley, featuring ten original songs and a reworking of the Badfinger classic, "No Matter What." Conjuring up influences of Todd Rundgren, Elvis Costello, Bill Nelson and Brian Wilson, Peter Stanley ties rock and roll aggression, unique song structures, and lush background vocals with a blue eyed R&B soulfulness and commitment that could only emanate from his skinny white ass.Smirk is the culmination of a five year odyssey of which he remarks, "If I had to do it all again, I would've gone to the same surgeon as Britney Spears." Seriously though, this solo debut is the result offive years of blood, sweat, tears (beers?), countless ups and downs and an even larger amount of time spent manning the console during the gangster rap recording sessions that helped to finance it.What's his background? Well, when not working on his own material, Mr. Stanley's production, engineering or instrumental skills have been found assisting the likes of VAST (Elektra Records); San Jose's premiere metal/hip-hop band, Insolence; Grab Bag's own power popmeisters Lost Causes (three acts he's happy to talk about), Smash Mouth (One act he isn't happy to talk about), not to mention various hip-hop and R&B groups in or around the San Francisco Bay Area (Plenty to talk about, too little time).Peter's main artistic dictate is to serve the almighty "vibe," conjuring aural vistas at times spiky and obtuse, others lush and welcoming. He is eternally searching for the elusive musical "moment" where classic songwriting, sonic innovation, and creative production meld into a cohesive package. Hi-fi, Lo-fi, it's all good. Peter sincerely hopes you enjoy this window into his unique world and invites your comments and feedback. |
