Artist History The Butta Babees are a Montreal based hip hop crew that have been crafting their sound over the last 4 years. With a Manchilde 12 inch single Baby Mother/ Science out now and a full length album Urban Eloquent to follow, it appears that they are positioned to bust. The song Baby Mother is a moving audio drama, painting vivid imagery in the listeners mind, while Science analyzes some of the ills of the music industry, over a sweet piano loop. Both songs have received positive feedback, after air-play on such radio stations as C.K.U.T., C.K.L.N., C.I.N.Q. and C.I.U.T.Their unique style is based on Manchildes buttery smooth vocals, featuring his freestyling and storytelling skills. Originally from Trinidad, he began to hone his natural MC abilities with the group Ubis when his family moved to Toronto. Ubis established a rep strong enough to be performing along side local legends Thrust and Ghetto Concept, as well as opening up for major tours involving Black Moon and Pharcyde. Manchilde later relocated to Montreal, and was soon hosting the hottest Party/Open Mic session the city has ever know, named Savoy at world renowned nightclub Metropolis. His talents and charisma packed the venue weekly as his reputation grew quickly. This lead to him performing and hosting heavyweight shows involving The Roots, Guru of Gangstar, and even Brantford Marsallis. In addition to his rise on the underground Hip-Hop circuit, Manchilde has also carve a name for himself as an acapella poet on the expanding spoken word scene. When entering the area with the worlds best at the Mecca of Slam poetry, the Nuyorican Poet Cafe in New York, he walked out with first place in a slam competition. In addition to being a lyricist, in its truest form, his talents also including being a budding producer. Manchildes is often accompanied on stage by partner/hype man Zip-Loks. Zip is also a producer and lyricist in his own right. Together their numerous live show through out the Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and New York areas have developed a growing fan base. They created a sensation in Toronto at the 1999 North-by-Northeast new Music Festival for which they performed live on Much Music. Winners of the CMW Future Music Award in conjuction with Universal records. Butta Babees have contributed both beats and lyrics to the Word Life compilation CD. Manchilde is featured on the recently released Muzion(BMG) album, plus a compilation 12 inch entitled Ill Mental that is presently distributed through Canada and the U.S. As their names and reputation continue to grow through out the East Coast region, Manchilde is also presently working on future releases with the support on Bandit Records.
