Artist History main~stream was formed in 1996 when Rob Solomon and E. Robert Frank combined forces to create a new sound forged from pure spite. Their first effort, '87', combined the sounds of the Casio keyboard with a distorted Guitar/Bass (actually a guitar with the lower 2 strings replaced with bass strings) to great success. The songs described negative emotions: futility, depression, and pessimistic attitudes in a disturbingly positive manner. This would be the sound in which main~stream was born, that of contridiction. Instead of wooing fans with a 'you are an individual' routine, it instead invited fans to join the mass group of collective ignorance that is everyday life. Their T-Shirts that say nothing but 'conformist'. The fans do not pretend to be different. And neither does the main~stream. While many have criticized the main~stream for delivering shoddy home recordings instead of perfectly polished gemstones, well, the main~stream has no answer for that, except to say they are extremely lazy. main~stream has two more albums, 'swm' (about the failure to consumate or remain in a 'relationship'), and the work-in-progress 'the grey ocean' (about depression, like someone said, "write what you know").
