Artist History
David Alan Earnest was born in Nampa, Idaho. Dave has been involved in music since an early age, has been composing for 25 years, and has been in performing groups encompassing many different musical styles from country to rock to classical/orchestral. Dave has a Bachelor's degree in composition from the Wheaton College Conservatory located near Chicago. His first instrumental album "The Initial Album" was released on cassette locally in Idaho in 1989. The second album "Phases of the Mood" (also on cassette) followed in 1991. He has received composing commissions from churches, high schools, music educators, theaters, book publishing companies, film makers, and video production companies. In 1995 David won the Idaho Film and Video Association's Nell Shipman Award for Original Music for a computer animation "Gourmet News". Also in 1995 David had two classical premieres. His three movement "String Trio No. 1" was written especially for and performed on March 5th by the Langroise Trio, the string trio in residence at Albertson's College of Idaho. On April 25th the premiere of his "Serenade for Strings" was performed by the Albertson's College of Idaho Community Orchestra. In April of 1996, David released his third electronic instrumental album "Visit the Blue Planet" available on CD and composed another album "A Call for Rain". 1997 was an eventful year. On May 29, "Company Tour" was premiered by the Langroise Trio. During the summer, while work continued on the "String Trio No. 2", David was asked to score the pilot episode for "The Wrong Way Kids", a 30 minute TV episode produced by Bob Klosterman and Tierre Turner. Also, in November, the Suzuki Institute of Idaho commissioned David to compose a string piece for their 25th anniversary. The "Sonatina for Strings" was performed in June of 1998 conducted by the composer. On February 3, 1998 the Langroise Trio premiered the "String Trio No. 2" in Jewett Auditorium as part of the Caldwell Fine Arts Series. On February 15 the Trio No. 2 was again performed for a Valentines brunch at the Simplot Academy in Boise eliciting great applause from the Philharmonic board members. Also in 1998, at the SIGGRAPH computer animation festival held in Orlando, Mitch Butler’s "The Smell of Horror" animated short, which David scored and did sound design, took the festival by storm. This little film has been seen all over the world. In January 1999 Dave was hired by North By Northwest Productions of Spokane, WA and Boise, ID as audio engineer/sound designer/composer. While in Spokane training for a Boise audio gig he worked audio post for two feature films. The first, "The Brutal Truth", starred Molly Ringwald and Christina Applegate and was directed by Joey Travolta. The second, “Mel” starred Ernest Borgnine directed again by Travolta. Through February and March Dave worked as orchestrator/copyist for composer Don Caron of Spokane on music for the film “The Basket” produced by North By Northwest Entertainment.(Released nationally May 2000) (http://www.ior.com/~donaldc/theteam1.htm) The scoring sessions were held in Budapest, Hungary. Dave was asked to go along as assistant and as an extra set of ears for Caron. Dave also recorded and co-produced an album by the Langroise Trio. Works by Beethoven, Berger, Schubert, and Earnest ("Company Tour") were included on the album. On April 5, 1999 the second movement to "String Trio No. 2" was performed by the Langroise Trio on the Millenium stage at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. Most recently David has composed music for the DMPML Production Music Library produced in the UK. The Langroise Trio has recorded a second CD ("Romancero") which features the "String Trio No. 2". Also a new work for concert band entitled "The Avon Lady Meets Frumpy the House Cat" was commissioned by the Albertson’s College Concert Band. The piece premiered on May 18, 2000 conducted by Dr. Terry Stone and was a great success. In 2001 Dave's music was discovered on mp3.com by film maker Ernesto McCausland from Columbia, S.A. Dave's music was used in the film "Siniestro" which won the Minister of Culture Award for all of Columbia. Dave likes to fish and is an enthusiastic (although somewhat lame) golfer. |

Press Reviews
Visit The Blue Planet -- "...Listening to this album really makes me feel good!!! This CD is complex, quiet, introspecting and involving. ...(A) noble and elegant release." Stavros Moschopoulos, The Casa Gazette, Rome, Italy ======================================== "...a one man band on synthesizer, he unleashes an orchestra worth of instruments. On 'Reminiscing,' piano, cello, and oboe trade lead on a lovely melody." Marianne Flagg, The Idaho Statesman ========================================= "...(the composer) has crafted a sound full of lengthy instrumental ballads and flowing tranquility." J. D. Hunter, Boise Weekly ========================================== String Trio No. 1 -- "...David Johnson, violist for the (Langroise) Trio, describes the piece as energetic, challenging and emotionally concrete. 'It had different moods I could relate to,' says Johnson. 'There were emotions you could do something with within a performance. I'm looking forward to his next work to see what different things he can do.'" from an article in the Idaho Statesman by David Proctor ===================================== "...I found Earnest's String Trio No. 1 to be angular, energetic and very listenable. His composition is contempo enough to keep fans of modern sounds interested, but not so whacked as to leave fans of old-style classical scratching their noggins and murmuring, 'that ain't music!'" Steve Duda, Boise Weekly ======================================== "Your favorite piece was "Riptide" (String Trio No.2 - I, String Trio No. 3 - II & III choreographed by Carl Rowe and danced by Idaho Dance Theater, music performed by the Langroise Trio)...this was the high point of the evening..." Josh Bogle, The Boise Weekly |
