    Artist History
Bill Knight is well known on stage as a monitor engineer, primarily mixing for major jazz festivals (Playboy, Monterey, etc.). He has mixed for the top names in jazz, blues, and world music. He is also at home as an audio systems engineer for high-tech multi-media events. But his true passion is realized as a musician, singer, composer, and sound experimentalist. Bill's performance career began at age ten as a stage actor in plays and musicals, performing in local productions regularly into his early twenties. He joined his first band as a singer in teens and bought his first synthesizer, an ARP Oddessey. From that point on, his path was clear. He opted out as an actor, and began to compose electronic music for experimental theater, video, and hypnosis tapes. After singing lead for a few cover bands, it wasn't long before the songs he wrote were the basis which formed his first original band, the pseudo-progressive melodic rock project, Liquid Flame. His music has always sought to ignore genre barriers, and avoid the status quo. In the early 90's, he also performed as a keyboardist and background vocalist for the alternative psychadelic rock outfit, Psychout, playing most of the major Los Angeles area clubs. During this time, Bill also collaborated on some experimental peices with former and current bandmate, Jon Mattox. These were produced solely for personal artistic satisfaction, yet later one peice was actually requested for use in an American nature documentary. He later was hired as a lead vocalist for the original soundtrack of the musical, Generator Girl . He also sang for the independent short film, Turntable People. It was only a matter of time before Bill built his own digital recording studio, called Deep Six. He began to record a backlog of compositions on his own. In addition to occaisional solo singer-songwriter gigs, Knight is currently recording and performing with the eclectic experimental rock instrumental project, UNI , which continues the cross-genre concept with a vengence. Even though UNI has not yet finished its studio debut, they have already been approached by Dutch television for soundtrack material based on their early live recordings. They also have a version of the tune "Neptune Pool" which was selected for the Adrian Belew tribute project . UNI has a live show which must be seen to be believed. They utilize a wide range of accoustic and electronic instrumentation with amazing guest players, intoxicating multi-media treatments, and a special guest bellydancer segment. It is quite an experience. Bill's latest endeavor is the formation of The BOX Trio. This side project is a dark-ambient electronic percussive improvisation act, which attempts to utilize rhythms, loops, and sound effect noise gadgetry beyond the extreme. There is also a theatrical project in the works, in which he will sing the lead role of Satan, for a musical version of "Milton's Paradise Lost". And also a collaboration with members of the art-noise band MLM, on a performance art piece called "Risk Cantata." Knight's vocal work was featured in the 2003 short film, "Vinyl War". He sang for the 60's psychadelic-pop parody song called "Weekday Lady". And now BIll is now begining to collaborate with other promising and talented songwriters in his studio. He will be stepping into a new role, producing recordings, and sharing his talent as an engineer, arranger, and synthesist.
