Artist description
DJMaytag is a solo producer of melodic yet rhythmic electronic music. There may be a question as to whether or not his productions are considered "Trance", but since they're definitely melodic and have enough of a beat to NOT be "New Age", they're on mp3.com under the "Melodic Trance" genre. DJMaytag's productions are based on textures and sounds which can only come from analog synthesizers (usually the older the better!) Old school sequencing (ie MSQ-700, Atari 1040STe, MPC-2000XL), interesting sounds, and catchy melodies lead to some imminently likeable music - to chill out to, or to dance to... |
|
Music Style
Various shades of Electronic/New Age/Trance/Ambient, but not necessarily Techno/Dance. |
|
Musical Influences
DJ Tiesto and his various projects (ie KAMAYA PAINTERS, Major League, Alibi, etc), Jean Michael Jarre, Oliver Lieb (Spicelab, LSG), Beethoven, most "Scandinavian" and German trance. Recently have taken a liking to Armin, Nostrum, Plastic Angel, Vincent DeMoor, Marino Stephano,. Grew up listening to all sorts or 80's synth pop and synth rock. |

Similar Artists
I'd (reluctantly) say early 90's Orbital. Jean Michel Jarre is the only artist I admit to wanting to imitate, but I'd love to make dancey yet melodic stuff, ala DJ Tiesto productions |

Artist History
It started with a (broken) JX-3p in December of 1994 and by the summer of 1995 got my first airplay on a local radio station (3 more tracks were aired over the next couple of years.) I'm still in the process of rebuilding my studio after a gear reduction in 1999. As of 02/2001, I just need a mixer to start producing in full (OK, I still need a medium to record on - ie DAT - but I can always rent one of those...). I'm currently taking some music theory classes, tom improve the quality of my writing and I've recently acquired enough music making gear to at least start writing and making sketches, so keep an eye out on my track listings! :-) |

Press Reviews
"Great song.. the melody is beautiful.." - 303infinity ---------- "DJMaytag is another innovator daring to try something other than re-treaded Trance. This is a perfect example of how his discerning, artistic ears lead where the music takes him (and us). "Driven" is an extremely lush piece that starts out innocently then slams, but in a very "soft" way. The thunder is produced not by pounding drums, but with deliciously booming bass lines and phat pads. The twittery sounds bouncing left and right give it just the right ambience, and keep it interesting. Beefy but smooth." - admin of Alt-Electronica La Melodic station on mp3.com ---------- "Soft music landscape... it is not exactly Jarre, but it is good." - Sons of Jarre station on mp3.com |
