Artist History Ram Deshpande, born 1968, hails from Vidarbha. He has a rich musical tradition. He is a renowned vocalist of new generation and an artist of commendable talent. He had his primary lessons from Shri. Chepe, Shri. Panake and Pt. Prabhakar Deshkar. Thereafter he had been under the able guidance of Pt. Yashwantbua Joshi and Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar to rise to great heights as a singer of the traditional Gwalior and Jaipur Gharanas. He is still receiving guidance in respect of Agra Gharana, from Pt. Babanrao Haldankar. He got the post graduate degree in music from Nagpur University with gold medal. He has achieved the doctorate degree in music and the subject of his research was "Mishra Raga". Dr. Ram Deshpande had been recipient of Government National Scholarship and the Kesarbai Kerkar Scholarship by N.C.P.A., Mumbai. He was selected as an expert at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Vashi, Navi Mumbai. He got the best vocalist award of 1991 by the Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata. He has been also honoured by the prestigious "Vidyasagar Award" by Music Forum. Besides, he is "A" - Graded artist of the Akashwani and Doordarshan, Mumbai. He has participated in various concerts at the state and national level all over India. There are CDs and cassettes available on his credit having rare ragas like Mira Malhar, Lalita Gauri, Samant Sarang and Rageshree Bahar. He has also toured Holland, Germany and Dubai - Muscat for concerts.
