MF'Ntertainment...The Industry'e Best Kept Secret
Hailing from the Crescent City, these two accomplished pianists met at the University of New Orleans. Within a month of their first encounter, the infamous duo had written five unforgettable R&B ballads. A few months later, the pair became members of the four-man contemporary sensation, Phire, & within the next two years, Metcalf & Flowers (or MF’N) would go on to write, produce, & arrange masterpiece after masterpiece.
Funding for Phire’s projects came from MF’Ntertainment’s side ventures; producing & selling hip hop beats. Working with a small band of mc’s, the Legion of Doom (featured on DangerAce Gaimez), MF’N would become notorious for not only their timeless love ballads but also their grimy street symphonies.
MF’N influences:
“Our hip hop influences run all across the board,” says Flowers. “We love Dr. Dre …who doesn’t! The combination of his funky bass lines & his to-the-point drum beats helped create that simplistic pimpsh*t West coast sound.”
“We also like the RZA,” continues Metcalf. “He’s one of the forefathers of sampling & helped define that sample-heavy style of production.” MF’N also lists the producers that helped define Tupac’s albums "Me Against the World", "All Eyez on Me") & Nas’ albums ("It Was Written", "I AM"). “Our R&B influences are a bit more focused,” says Flowers. “Brian McKnight & Babyface have shaped our style a great deal. We’re both very ballad oriented & they are the best producers/songwriters out there. The constant hitmen, Terry Lewis & Jimmy Jam, have also affected us musically & we look to Boyz II Men when it’s time to arrange our harmonies” MF’Ntertainment’s R&B influences also include Tim & Bob, Diane Warren, Quincy Jones, R. Kelly, Barry White, Donny Hathaway, & the incomparable Stevie Wonder.
About the MF’N Career Goals:
“We know how to make good music & I want to be able to showcase our stuff to the world,” say Metcalf. “I’d like to do what I love for a living,” adds Flowers, “instead of selling shoes!” In the tradition of producers like Terry Lewis & Jimmy Jam, Dr. Dre, & Babyface, MF’N intends on providing great music to great artists. “And if all goes well,” Flowers continues, “we’ll be able to take our earnings & build a studio so we can begin working on our own R&B album.”
MF’Ntertainment Motto:
“I don’t want to be better than the next man, I just want to be better than I was yesterday.” |
