"ADIOS is a solid, four-piece, indie-rock band from Akron, Ohio. They're only 18 years old, but trust me; they put together a solid performance in their debut album, The Ropes. It's honestly one of the best indie-rock albums I've heard in a while. The Ropes is a flowing, enigmatic display of melody, harmony and rhythm as well as an emotionally and lyrically charged album. There is an unstoppable flow of energy throughout the entire album. Each song is packed with such raw, emotional energy and powerful harmonies. In some spots, there's a more airy and spacey tone but it's all brought back together by a driving chorus or hard-hitting bridge. My favorite songs on the album are "Tides" and "Red-Handed." These songs open with such powerful yet perplexing intros then sooth your ears with melodic, almost eerie sounding chords and riffs. Then the chorus comes in and adds such a powerful charge to the song. The shear, driving force of all the songs on this album is relentless. ADIOS is really tight too. They truly display a pure and raw talent for what they do. Their sound is almost incomparable. They do something really different with this album and that's something I really like to see in newer bands. They definitely don't sound like any other band. ADIOS has a really unique, tight and almost mystifying sound plus I hear something new everytime I listen to this. There's always a slight hint of melody that I didn't hear the previous time and that makes listening to this album so much more enjoyable. Tribunal Records really has something new and different. ADIOS is a delightful rock band and The Ropes is beyond doubt an overall solid album!" 9/10 DECOY ONLINE "If there was ever band that was the sister to San Diego's own No Knife (era-Fire in the City...), and the cousin to Counterfit, Adios would be her. These four eighteen year old lads from Akron, Ohio have really taken the time to create a mature and cohesive record that will not disappoint fans of bands like the Appleseed Cast, Hey Mercedes, Mineral or Mock Orange (second album). The album artwork is sharp, the recording is clear and well mixed and overall The Ropes is a really solid release for both Adios and Tribunal Records. The only low points I can see about this record is that it somewhat lacks originality and that there are no lyrics in the booklet, just photos of freeways and lampposts, etc. Neither of these factors however can negate the obvious ability and talent of the band. My favorite tracks were "Tides", "Ghost Writing" and "Casino"...But most songs are on par with those...no doubt, a quality release." 8/10 SanDiegoPunk.com "This is one of the best indie rock records to be put out in a long time - and on a metal label. The times they are a changing for Tribunal. Adios are a solid indie rock band like you'd hear back in the mid 90's. I remember when band's made good records like this all the time. Now days all the indie bands want to be fucking Jane's Addiction. I like my indie rock jangly, angular rocking music with a nice complement of melodic vocals. Musically Adios do that with a bunch more power. They are comparable to Piebald, Ethel Meserve, Braid, The Jazz June, and a bunch of other rockers. This is a record that shouldn't be slept on. Best of all it's not an EP. So buy this record and be all "Thanks Criddler, you're the man, you need another a beer?" 4 stars CORNZINE "I'm a little surprised that this band is on Tribunal seeing as how they're mainly a metal label, but I give them heavy thumbs up for signing this band. Quite a good discovery, a whole lot of talent here. They're quite good at creating a gloomy relaxed atmosphere and feel. I'm not going to try and categorize this band or even try and describe their style other than saying they're kind of slow rock and roll. Calling them emo would be an insult. Their song structures are much more complicated than most bands of their "type" and the lyrics are pretty sweet as well. One of the things that irks me most about indie/emo/whatever bands are the vocals being whiny and just plain stupid. But these guys did it right, even harmonizing at times. Good job guys, keep it up. I'll be sportin this CD for quite some time." 5/5 PAHARDCORE "Funny, while I was reading Adios's press statement and listening to the first track off of THE ROPES, I was pretty much convinced I was going to hate this. I figured these four 18-year-olds were going to be your average cheesy emo-rock band; but it seems Adios has put me in my place. I love this album. I really do not know why exactly, but I can't stop listening to it. These songs display a great deal of maturity, and the vocals are top-notch. THE ROPES is entertaining throughout, catchy but rocking at the same time. If you are into Polyvinyl or bands like Mae—or even indie-rock in general—you should do yourself a favor and pick this up. I only have one question: why are these guys on Tribunal?" Skratch Magazine
