    Artist description
Mick was born in London, England in 1956. His mother was a fine arts painter and his father was a musician/conductor/scholar/BBC producer and also the world's authority on Italian Rennaissance composer Claudio Monteverdi (the 'father' of modern opera). Mick grew up in both the USA and Europe. In the mid 70's, Mick settled in London and became a roadie/sound engineer for several bands, including Manfred Mann's Earth Band, Soft Machine, Ronnie Lane's Slim Chance, Rennaisance, Fusion Orchestra, Status Quo and Curved Air. In 1973, Mick participated in the infamous STAR-TRUCKING tour of Europe with Soft Machine, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, Wishbone Ash, Climax Blues Band and Lou Reed. During his tenure with Soft Machine, his interest in music, electronics and audio enabled him to co-design one of the world's first quadrophonic P.A. systems in 1974. Mick took up fretless bass in the late 70's, and was particularly influenced by great players such as Alphonso Johnson (Weather Report) and Ralph Armstrong (Mahavishnu Orchestra). However, his biggest influence was - and still is - fretless bass innovator Percy Jones. Mick's primary musical project during the 90's was his 100% improvisational fusion band The Avant Gardeners, with guitarist Tosh Horie and drummer Chuck Voelter. Their 1996 CD Bob's Your Uncle (OPR-201) was released by Outer Planet Records ( www.theouterplanet.com). In 1998, a 'cosmic' opportunity arose for Mick to fill-in for his 'mentor' Percy Jones in the legendary British jazz-rock fusion band Brand X, which included founding member/virtuoso guitarist John Goodsall, keyboardist Kris Sjobring and drummer/percussionist John Holmes. Other members of this prestigious band have been: drummer/percussionists Phil Collins, Bill Bruford, Morris Pert, Kenwood Dennard, Mike Clark, Frank Katz and Pierre Moerlin; bassists Percy Jones and John Giblin; keyboardists Robin Lumley and Peter Robinson; MIDI-vibraphonist Marc Wagnon.
