Artist description
It is not necessary to travel south to experience the diversified sounds that come from the island of Cuba. Just spend some time in metropolitan Montreal, Canada, and follow the steps of nine Cuban- Canadian musicians, all Montrealers, who comprise CONVOY CUBANO, a band whose sound combines traditional elements of Cuban music, such as son, and guajira, with contemporary hip hop and rap influences. |

Group Members
CONVOY CUBANO started out as a basement project of producers/rappers Neiver “Cubanito” Alvarez and Reinery “Vikingo” Diaz. Neiver and Reinery were experimenting in the studio with combining different Cuban styles of music, with contemporary rap and hip-hop sounds. As great as the computers and synthesisers can be, Neiver and Reinery felt that their tracks needed a live feel. They also wanted to hear authentic Cuban instrumentation in their tracks, so they decided to bring in the best Cuban trained musicians that Montreal had to offer. They called their friends: Drummer/percussionist Osmundo “Mundito” Calzado, bassist Lazaro Leiva, lead singer Oscar Fuentes, guitarist Narciso Garcias, tres player Oscar Morejon, keyboard player Jesus ‘El Nino’ Alejandro Perez, and conga player Morris Zalazar; All Montrealers of Cuban origin, working and playing in different bands in and around the city.
