Press Reviews
Kari Tauring's latest music effort, "Faith in Me" is atasty twelve layer cake with a sweet whisky sauce, along time in the baking. Tauring has been known around the Minneapolis scene as part of a couple different groups, but seems to have found her groove, and a mature, open voice in this solo release. With plush production and vocals that lick your ear "Faith.." is easy enough to listen to. However, it's the stories and statements, from someone who has obviously lived a little, in each song that make this CD easy to eat. "Call Out My Name" is definitely the whisky sauce of many relationships, as you will understand when you listen to the chorus line, "I said that I would have you if you would call out my name." The sweetly virulent songs "Boundaries" and "Nothing" will have you enjoying a melodic trashing, while buying into Tauring's point of view. "Turn on the Light" has the bitter-sweet dark chocolate taste that comes from admitting you have some weaknesses, with the knowledge that you can still get on with life. Tauring's band backs her well with a mix of folk-funk acoustics that gives the whole record a maudlin 'lude laden flavor while still maintaining some dance-ability with a little extra base at the bottom of their sound.(Christopher Weiss) For Toast Magazine (www.toastmag.com) |
