Richard has always been interested in a variety of musics. Over the years, he has: played in noisy rock bands; accompanied poets and dijeridu players; sung solo in folk clubs; sat in a pit orchestra for pantomime; studied singing, Indian RĒg and Cosmic Theatre with French composer/ performer Gilles Petit; and attended a number of jazz workshops taught by such luminaries as John Parricelli and Franny Verney. Richard has been involved in sound recording since he was at school. He has worked in a commercial studio and as a technician for the Music department at the University of Bristol. He started recording albums and demos of his own and other people's work on four-track cassette in 1982; graduated to eight-track in 1991; and now works on a PC-based digital multitrack system. Prior to making Robot Sculpture, he has released four cassette albums (see below). Press Reviews
Reviews for Robot Sculpture "Highland Roads" contains some nice guitar playing you might describe as a bit Pinhas or Fripp inspired. "That Was No Yellow Ferrari" is bit like something Zappa might have composed. I really loved the last track, "The Breath Of The Grey King". It made me feel like I was sitting out in the middle of nowhere in Wales in ancient times and looking up at the sky as a meteor storm blazes across the sky and I look up in amazement, not having any idea what is happening but enjoying the beauty of the moment. A very nice release. Scott Heller- Aural Innovations, USA April 2002 an impressive array... Simply lovely Messages emits perfect concentrations of warm spaciousness and mysteriously blurred abstract tonality... a seductively obtuse stunner. Roswell drifts amid low drones, plucky strings and animalistic hoots in the misty distance. David J Opdyke- Ambientrance, USA April 2002 ...Verwacht geen koude ambiente electronica: het is verbazend te horen hoe de menselijke muziek steeds weer de boventoon weet te krijgen. ...Don't expect cold ambient electronica, it's amazing to hear the human music gain the upper hand time and again. (approximate translation) Ronald Boortman- Klinkende Klanken, Rotterdam March 2002.
