Richard Garrett was born near London, UK in 1957. He started playing guitar and bass at the age of sixteen and has been writing music ever since. He has played jazz, rock, folk and blues; accompanied poets and dijeridu players; sat in a pit orchestra for pantomime; studied singing, Indian Rag and Cosmic Theatre.
Richard has released four cassette albums and one CD album Robot Sculpture. In Robot Sculpture, the music begins in a computer program, is ruthlessly sculpted by the editing process and then spectacularly embellished by improvisation. Unlike much contemporary electronica, the generative origins of the music, combined with Richard's own keen aesthetic sense, produce works of great freedom and subtlety.
Richard now lives in an isolated Welsh farmhouse, halfway between the mountains of Snowdonia
and the sea, with his partner, Heather Slade. There, he writes music, plays guitar at every
opportunity and leads weekly jazz workshops at Pantperthog near Machynlleth in Powys.
