Artist description META4 - - - - Live authentic computer/acoustic generated music - - - - One of the main characteristics of the music of META4 is its pluralistic nature, reflecting both the varied aesthetics, backgrounds and experiences of its composer-performers. In compositions and performances, META4 employs as 'raw' material any and all acoustic objects to be found in the world--instrumental sounds, simple concrete or synthesized sounds, appropriated and composed music, spoken word, natural phenomena, etc. This material is reworked before becoming embedded into so-called 'proto-compositions' which are then called upon in live performance. It is a music that is not only an architecture of sound in time but also a landscape of these architectures, a network of the multidimensional associations that may be conveyed by sound.

Group Members Rolf Gehlhaar, composer and performer, is one of the leaders in the field of live electronic music, having started his career as a member of the Stockhausen Ensemble of the 60's. He has composed over 60 major works, most of them electroacoustic or electronic in nature and, in 1984, invested, designed and developed SOUND=SPACE, the first genuine interactive computer controlled music environment. Although SOUND=SPACE was originally designed to be 'played' by many persons in spaces of 100 meters squared or larger, he has adapted its software for his own use, as his performing instrument. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Nikola Kodjabashia, composer, conductor and performer, studied with Anatol Vieru at the Academia de Musica Bucharest and with Sir Harrison Birtwistle at King's College London, where he received his Mmus. He holds a lectureship in composition at King's College and has held the post of Musical Director at the National Theatre for its production of Euripides' The Bacchae. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Hagop Gehlhaar-Matossian, web designer, composer, and DJ has been involved in music since first being taken to concerts of his father's music as a very small child. He has studied several instruments, worked extensively as a sound engineer and technician for Jazz & Theatre and has been composing drum'n'bass and experimental breakbeat since 1998. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Vahakn Gehlhaar-Matossian, student sculptor, artist, DJ, composer, has also studied several instruments--guitar, piano and drums. He composes drum'n'bass and hiphop.
