Artist History Reprobus is one a hundred percent electronic adrenaline junkie. Forget the speed, trash the syringe, and flush the pills. This boy has been dosing on synthetic sound since his grubby little hands could reach the stylus. The media warns us that once a person is introduced to drugs heavier and more serious use is inevitable. In Reprobus’ case that statement couldn’t be truer. Reprobus was given his very first hit of synthetic mayhem by is father (sad, but true). Rummaging deep into his old mans record collection Reprobus discovered a wonderful ambient recording titled “Phadrea” by Tangerine Dream. The recording was full of pulsating moogs and lush pads. Reprobus didn’t even know what a synth was, but after one fix, he was hooked. For months he nagged his parents to purchase him a synth. Finally the wary adults collapsed under the pressure and Reprobus was the proud owner of a single oscillator, monophonic, analog synthesizer. He couldn’t play worth a damn, but man when that saw wave squeezed itself though that tight little filter!…. he was in ecstasy. It was almost as exciting as the ratty girlie mags he had stuffed under the mattress. Patch the little phatty into a gorilla amp and he was ready to ride. As Reprobus grew older his addiction only grew stronger. The years past and more synths where purchased. Reprobus engrossed himself in MIDI, sampling, sound design, and recording. He expanded his tastes and started to experiment with other substances such as, industrial, funk, gothic, punk, and rock. Each one offering it’s special brand of high. Inevitably he banded together with other like-minded individuals who shared his compulsive nature. They would hold secret meetings in the basement where they would shoot up on rhythm, bass, and melody. Inevitably they began to design new drugs of their own. Like many other dealers in the area Reprobus & Co, finally took their wares to the streets of New York City. Peddling their drugs and prostituting themselves at clubs like CBGB, The Bitter End, and The Lions Den. Soon they branched out to the college scene and shamelessly flogged their brand of satisfaction to hungry young college junkies. Reprobus was still not satisfied. He wanted to do something 100% electronic, 100% synthetic, 100% Reprobus. Reprobus gathered together his weaponry and more like an architect than a musician he set himself to work. Dance and Break Beats where laid down as the foundation and reinforced with thick oscillating bass. He then raised the walls out of smooth, organic pads that he panned across the stereo plane for fullness and warmth. Melodic and rhythmic arpedgiations where finally lifted over the top, hanging above the music like baroque ornaments. 1 year later he finished, “Sonoluminescence”.
