    Artist History
Boomshanker consists of Lead Guitarist Marc James O’Keeffe, Dallas Marvin Jones Vocals, Aris Capellos Keyboards, Chris Hills Bass Guitar and Gaz Warden Drums. The history of the band started in 1999 as an outfit put together by Marc James O'Keeffe, under a different name and with different personnel, the band enjoyed many successful gigs in and around the Birmingham area until it was time for graduation. From this time Marc James O'Keeffe continued to write songs and soon formed the early incarnation of ‘Boomshanker’ with Aris Capellos Chris Hills and vocalist X who by fate met around a piano 1999 while 'skiving' from a lecture. This formed the starting point for the current ‘Boomshanker’ as the band found a great deal of success playing gigs throughout the UK and gaining a loyal fan base along the way. A live television performance on ‘WhereItsAt.com’ saw a massive surge of hits on the new website gaining the band a lot of recognition and respect and some new opportunities. After filming a video for the song 'Bright Green Washing Machine' it was used on regional channel ITV. A trip to Japan saw the sale of some 35,000 copies of the song 'A Foreign Land', the song 'LFD' also enjoyed airplay on Radio 1's 'Evening Session' thanks to Steve Lamacq. Radio1 New boy Collin Murray also described Boomshanker as having 'a pretty distinctive sound of their own'. Without much time to lose the band continued with the tour, which was a complete success. The band was invited to record and be produced by Gavin Monaghan (Idlewild/ Miss Black America) and team via the website, and an invitation to perform on Italian Television (Database) was also sent via the website ensuring the band more coverage than ever before. After another spate of gigs throughout the UK, the band saw the departure of Vocalist X. The band then embarked on a long and intensive search and advertising campaign for the U.Ks finest frontman to complement the U.Ks finest band. After auditioning well over 100 individuals, 2003 saw the arrival of vocalist Dallas Marvin Jones. On terms of writing the songs, each member brings their own unique elements to the overall sound, though much of the original concepts is down to the sheer talent of Marc James O'Keeffe who says 'good songs just arrive' and 'the first ideas are always the strongest'. Dallas Marvin Jones’ presence and soulful vocals and Rock n Roll MC'ing conjure a refined beast when combined with Boomshanker's tuneful and Psychedelic elements. The songs are powered along by the experienced rolling fortissimo that is Bass player Chris Hills, classically trained pianist Aris Capellos on Keys, and on drums, music student Gaz Warden. The band has had a lot of help and advice from people in the music industry. Keith Skully (sound engineer to Ian Brown/Groove Armada) is on the team, Clive Jones and Kip Trevor members of now Cult band from the 60’s/70’s Black Widow are on hand to give advice and help wherever needed. The band have influences ranging from the early 90’s Hardcore Dance/Madchester Indie to the Psychedelic Garage to Trip Hop to Motown and Heavy Rock from the 60’s 70’s and 80’s, with some 70s soul and old skool rap thrown in for good measure. Loved by Rockers and Ravers a like, Boomshanker enjoy a huge amount of success wherever they find themselves performing. Both performing live and in the studio Boomshanker’s love of the music they do ensures great success and satisfaction. -Ash Whyte/Andy Morrey 2003

'If you can see one British Band this year, make sure its Boomshanker' -NewYork Herald 'A Pretty Distinctive Sound of their own' -ColinMurray,Evening Session, BBC Radio1 'Boomshanker are Amazing' -Mark Peters -BeaconRadio FM Boomshanker – The Plan Boomshanker have a very original sound as they blend psychedelic rock with indie and the result is amazing! It lies somewhere in between the two styles and takes the best bits from both to create an astonishing sound. Any fans of indie or psychedelic rock – listen to this band as they are highly original and I am sure that you will enjoy them as much as I do. This song, ‘The Plan’ has been produced by Gavin Monaghan (producer for Idlewild, jesus and mary chain, miss black america, terris) and from this information you can really tell that this song is something special. It is a really melodic track and the sound is as always a totally original experience and I am sure that if this band wanted to they could easily conquer the mainstream with tracks like this one. I really like this song as it is really great and I have never heard anything like it in my life so they obviously aren’t just copying something that someone else has already had success with! I am sure that in years to come this band will have influenced many young people to form their own bands and maybe some will even be as good as Boomshanker are. With a smooth and original sound I think that this band have the power to make it big before the year is out. http://www.alt-uk.50megs.com/review41.html Boomshanker are, to coin a phrase, "rockers". in the classic (well, classic might be a bit of an overstatement) mould of oasis, their material is in your face pop/rock. with a touch of abba thrown in for good measure. and if that isn't enough to make you sit up and take notice, they've also got the "image" of another certain fun-lovin' band. their songs have been played on the evening session and citing influences ranging from jennifer lopez to man 'o' war, boomshanker are worth a listen. -http://www.bulaka.co.uk This is the latest track from the Birmingham based Indie Rockers that are Boomshanker. It is a long track clocking in at nearly six minutes but although it is an extremely long song – the band have enough talent to keep it going and it remains excitement throughout the duration of this six minute period. At around three and a half minutes you think that it is about to end but no – it shocks you and comes back in to life with a fresh, vibrant sound that will really put a smile on your face and leave you glad that it hadn’t ended when thought it was going to. This tune really shows off their new Hip Hop influence and I personally think that this new influence has added to the excitement of their music as not only do you have melodic Indie lines but you also have the almost rap style of the Hip Hop coming through – it has given their music extra flavour and made it ten times better! I loved the last track I heard – ‘The Plan’ but this track is just so much better and I think that is thanks to the new influence as it has really added a bit of spice to their music, creating a much fuller and more interesting sound. The vocals here are really spot on – the band have got them 100% right and they are really sounding in top form! The atmosphere is really chilled back and relaxed for this track which is really cool to hear and you can really tell that the band are enjoying themselves playing this music and are in it out of a complete passion for music. They make good use of the keyboards – making one hell of a sound with them that is sure to please any of you whether you are in to Psychedelic Rock music, Indie, or any other genre known to man really – it is just absolutely amazing and shows off just how much talent the band have to offer. I am proud to consider myself a fan of this band and am glad that I have been there since the start trying to help them spread the word as I really feel that they deserve to be, and probably should be massive. They may not be massive now but I am sure that before long they definitely will be as they just have so much talent to offer, with some amazing tunes on display that are absolutely faultless, full of energy, and definitely packed full of style! Head on down to www.boomshanker.net if you wish to download the track as it is an absolute blinder and will definitely please you whether you are usually a fan of Indie Rock or not. I absolutely love this tune as it is a blinder and really managed to cheer me up, putting a massive grin on my face while listening to it – you can’t possibly listen to this kind of music without raising a smile! Well done lads – and congratulations on creating another classic tune! http://www.alt-uk.com/ '‘The Plan’ and we’ve lost the trippiness and psychedelia here for a bolder guitar driven sound. The vocals scream homage to the Stone Roses but this is a fuller beefier offering with excellent guitar shapes and a breezier attitude. It’s balanced and muscular and builds to a crashing crescendo. Closing number is ‘Yamatw’ . A breathy echo laden vocal floats and sighs over a peaceful keyboard driven backing. The music sounds a bit experimental, but the mixture of synth sounds, piano phrases, crisp drums and thick guitar lines is actually soothing and uplifting in turn. A thick feel to the production gives it a sticky, claustrophobic warmth which is rather cosy.' http://www.unsignedcentral.co.uk
