    Artist History
dallas' self-titled debut CD [high park records HIPA 104] was released in early 1999 to critical acclaim from the likes of Melody Maker, Time Out, The Guardian, Amazon.com, Toronto Star, Exclaim! and others. dallas were invited to perform at the Canadian Music Week and NXNE music festivals in Toronto, and at the CMJ Music Marathon in New York City. One of the NXNE concerts was broadcast live in its entirety on TV and the group's music has been used in the syndicated TV show "Fashion Television." dallas describe their music as "a blend of estrada, bossa nova and twist, 1970s progressive, 1980s disco and dub and the beginnings of 1990s shoegaze." dallas compare their music to Stereolab, the Pastels, Velvet Underground, the Jesus & Mary Chain, Pulp, the Cardigans and Sonic Youth. dallas come from Tallinn, the capital city of the Republic of Estonia - the northernmost and smallest of the three Baltic states in Northern Europe. Estonia only regained its independence in 1991 after half a century of Soviet occupation. dallas formed in 1992, with the initial purpose of recording one song for the first post-independence compilation CD of Baltic artists. dallas quickly became a vital part of Tallinn's "Heven" scene, named after the club which became a focal point for post-independence bands. dallas played their first concert on 6 November 1992 at the Restko Bar in Tallinn, and have appeared live on Estonian TV. More concerts are being planned in Canada, the US and Europe. Visit our web site for updates at http://www.highpark.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/home.htm
