    Artist description
A rock'n'roll band from Eskilstuna, Sweden, playing mostly for fun. ********** The members have all played in other bands prior to this, but it is only Bengt and Mikke, Mikke and Najkles and also Bengt and Håkan respectively who have been "band buddies" prior to this line-up. Bengt and Mikke got to know each other in the late half of the eighties, but has not been working together musically since 1988/89. Mikke and Najkles joined forces between 1991 and 93 when The Incredible Melting Men as one of few bands in Sweden kept the traditional garage punk banner flying. Bengt and Håkan teamed up in 1995. ********** The Firetones play mainly their own material, influenced by traditional rock music from the fities and onward.

    Artist History
Formed in Eskilstuna in the summer of 2001, named The Firetones in late november that same year. The Firetones got the name from a derivate of a mis-spelt classified ad in local newspaper Eskilstuna-Kuriren, wherein someone wanted to sell his Bridgestone snow tires but had left the s out of the brand name. When replacing the missing letter, only placing it at the end instead of in the middle, the name Bridgetones felt so natural that it at first seemed that had to be the band's name. After a short period of thought, the band realized that the Japanese tiremanufacturer's American subsidiary, Firestone, possessed not only a longer history and a better looking logo, but also provided more rock'n'roll attitude once the name underwent the same treatment as Bridgetones had. Alas, The Firetones had emerged. Before settling for this "real" name of the band however, a project with homegrown Swedish-lyriced rock covers about cars called "Biltema" had already started under the alias "Dunlop Pirelli & His Michelin Men". Infact, Michelin was also a suggestion for the bandname, prior to the finding of the Bridgetone ad. ********** Musically, the members are spawn from different traditions spanning from early '60's pop and rock to the very latest hardcore punk and metal. Defiant of these differences, all the members also love the blues, the roots of rock, and all music that has the right groove. Therefore, the age-span and the various ways into musicianship doesn't stand between them, but rather works as the basis for an intriguing new mix of many different styles that otherwise rarely meet or blend into one perfect unit such as in the case of The Firetones. ********** The Firetones originally formed as a primarily recording act, rather than a live band. Ironically, the first recording the band ever made was taping their first semi-official live performance at the bar opening party in their rehearsal studio on January 26 2002. After that, March 15-17 2002 was spent recording in the rehearsal studio using their brand new Fostex VF160 Digital Multitracker resulting in four new songs of their own. The recordings (that go under the name "Stonage Rock'N'Roll") got it's name from one of the recorded songs, "Stoneage Modern Man", and are primarily of interest to the band itself in order for the members to learn and arrange the songs better. The sound quality also, despite the high-quality of the sound recorder, is a bit rough due to quick-and-dirty work and lack of proper microphones in sufficient numbers. However, the recording session was not meant to result in a studio quality album or even a single, but rather in the band learning how to manage the recording equipment. Later, these songs will be recorded in sessions where more time and effort will be put into the final result. Since these recordings, the original drummer has left the band and been replaced by ex-organgrinder Mikke. Ex-bassman Håkan took over the organs, and new member Najkles joined up as bass booster. The band will start re-recording some old songs (and possibly also some new ones) during the autumn of 2002, after altering the line-up and rehearsing to get back on track...
