Stoneage Rock'N'Roll
The Firetones is a five piece rockin' band from Eskilstuna, Sweden. We play mostly traditional type rock music of and in our own style. Originally playing covers, we've moved towards playing our own songs and are constantly expanding our repertoire.
The members are:
BENGT FIRETONE - Guitarslinger & Howler, born in 1966. Bengt is a big fan of the Rolling Stones, but also of a lot of other rock music from the early 70's and on. Bengt has been a member of the following bands prior to The Firetones: Novizerna (with Mikke), Algernons, Tre Feta Grisar (again with Mikke) and The Steamboat Willies (with Bille from Death Ripper and Håkan). Bengt was also a guitar tuner for local Misfit-punksters Total Sven back in the eighties.
|
HÅKAN FIRETONE - Organgrinder, born in 1950. Håkan is firmly rooted in classic 60's rock and blues. He is also much into dancing music. In 1965, Håkan became the guitarist of The Red Benders. By 1967 he expanded his role in the band to also be the lead singer when the quintet turned into a quartet and changed their name to VDN:s. In The early 1970's, Håkan had overcome his reluctance towards the solid bodied electric guitars and replaced his semi-acoustic guitar with a red Höfner when forming a guitar duo (with a different Bengt than the one he's currently teamed up with). The duo called themselves HB, named after their initials. After a long period of not playing in a band, Håkan was a founding member of Why Weep Widows in 1994. Another member of this band was Christer "Bille" Öhman who had also been a member of Death Ripper along with Mikke, back in the mid-eighties. In 1995, Bengt joined the band which at the time also changed name to The Steamboat Willies.

MIKKE FIRETONE - Drum Beater & occasional Bass Abuser, born in 1968. Mikke has his roots in hard rock and heavy metal, but has been into 60's punk for about 15 years by now, thus not putting the emphasis on technical brilliance but rather on feeling and the urge to become something that permiated the teen-scene of the 60's. Mikke has previous to The Firetones been a member of the following bands and musical constellations: Vagina Lickers, Death Ripper (with Bille from Why Weep Widows), Novizerna (with Bengt), The Beatgrinders, Anders Gärderud, Tre Feta Grisar (again with Bengt), Dr. Bebop Psycho & His Chemical Drug-Festival Fisherman Friends, The Incredible Melting Men (with Najkles). Mikke was also a co-lyricist and a producer to local punksters Total Sven back in the late eighties. Mikke moved to Uppsala in 1994 and still lives there.
|
NAJKLES FIRETONE - Bass Booster, born in 1972. Recently moved to Uppsala from Eskilstuna where he used to be the bassman in The Incredible Melting Men along Mikke back in the early nineties. Najkles has also played the bass in the Soaré -89 band at S:t Eskils Skola in Eskilstuna and was also a founding member of Pervert Persson & The Small Horny Boys (alongside Tobbe) in their days of youth and glory.
|
TOBBE FIRETONE - Guitarstrummer, born in 1973. Tobbe is brought up on a diet of mainly punk and hard rock. Apart from The Firetones, Tobbe's only earlier musical accomplishments were together with Najles in Pervert Persson & The Small Horny Boys.
