Artist description
At the age of 27, Avner Dorman's outstanding accomplishments have earned him widespread recognition as one of the most gifted Israeli composers of the younger generation.
Dorman is a first year C.V.Starr fellow in the DMA program of the Juilliard School of Music, studying with John Corigliano. He was also a recipient of the Tanglewood composition fellowship in the summer of 2002.
In the year 2000, Dorman won the ACUM prize for his 'Ellef' symphony, which was premiered by the Young Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra at the Young-Euro-Classic festival in Berlin and featured at the Expo 2000 in Hanover, Germany.
That same year he became the youngest composer ever to have been awarded the coveted Israeli Prime Minister's prize for exceptional achievement in the Arts.
In September 2001, Dorman was named Composer-in-Residence of the highly acclaimed chamber orchestra, the Israel Camerata, which resulted in a new crossover series in the orchestra's current season.
Dorman has taught computer-aided composition at the Rubin Academy of Music, Harmony at the 'Rimon School for Jazz and Contemporary Music' and has worked for the Open University in Tel Aviv.
His output to date (over 200 works) includes an opera in two acts, 10 concerti, two symphonies, chamber music, vocal music, song cycles, and large scale works for piano.

Artist History
Dorman graduated with honor from 'Alon' High School in 1993, majoring in Music and Physics. He served in the Israeli Army from 1993 till 1996, working as a music arranger and pianist.Dorman's orchestral performance debut was in 1994, when the Haifa Symphonic Orchestra performed his 2nd piano Concerto.
Since then his works have been performed extensively by renowned artists such as Giora Feidman and the Berliner Symphoniker, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta, the Tanglewood Festival Choir and many more.
In 1998 Dorman embarked on an innovative path. He wrote a Concerto for Violin and a Rock Group, and the piece was first performed by INNOVATION rock band, with Eyal Shiloach as soloist. The same ensemble presented this piece and others to an enthusiastic audience throughout Israel.
Dorman's diverse output contains also music for ballet and film.His works 'Accord/Discord' (1999), 'Sudden Void' (2000) and
'Falafel' (2001) were commissioned by the Bat-Dor Dance Company.In 1996 Dorman composed the soundtrack for Nitzan Aviram's award winning film, 'Son'.
Dorman has completed his Master's degree as a full scholarship student in the Adi Lautman Interdisciplinary Program For Fostering Excellence, at the Tel Aviv University, majoring in Music, Musicology & Physics.
Dorman was a composition fellow in the Tanglewood Music Center in the summer of 2002, and has begun his doctoral studies as a C.V.Starr fellow, in the DMA program of the Juilliard School of Music.
