The symphony has four parts, which are performed as one whole:
1. Fear – Based on a poem by Shmuel Hanagid (993-1056)
2. Slaughter – Based on a poem by Haim Nachman Bialik (1873-1934)
3. Elegy – Based on a poem by Yuval Rappaport. (b. 1975)
4. Based on my profound believe that the next millenium could be without wars.
The symphony moves from the collective horror experience of the human kind (movement no. 1), through the war itself, the slaughter and killing (movement no. 2) and on to the individual suffering of a mother having lost her first born son (movement no. 3).
The 4th movement makes a shift and ends the symphony in a newly born world of peace and light.
The main motive in the piece is the repetition of one note four times followed by silence. In the 1st movement this motive is played slowly in a gothic manner, expressing fear. In the 2nd movement it is played rapidly and accented, as if imitating the sound of swords and guns. In the 3rd the acoustic beats which are a result of the dense harmony imply tense heartbeats while in the forth, it almost disappears, leaving after it silence.
The Symphony is performed attacca (without stopping between the movements). It is approx. 20 min in duration.
