Artist History
On May 22 1982, Isheena L Murphy was born to James and Brenda Finkley. She has two older siblings Ikem and Iisha. She spent the first eight years of her life in Chicago ILL. At age 9 she moved to Madison WI, with her family. Where she attended school.
Musical Background
Performances Pre School gradation, First grade showcase, Grade School performances, Middle School musicals and plays High School production and talent shows, Local Radio Station, Back up for a Local Rappers independent album, Studio work with cousin, Studio work on her single, Theater workshop, University of WI workshop, and 2 Months of dance class.
Background In September 1998 Isheena Murphy formed a group called Ladies Love, with Iisha Murphy (sister), and Samantha (friend). The group lasted several months before Isheena left due to differences.
In 1999 she then joined with Samantha again, keeping Ladies Love as the name and this time attempting to write music. The group didn’t last long, lack of practices left them in disaster once more and they spilt. During this time, Isheena started working with a local rapper, Gemini, recording two songs “Gemini Going Get Um” and “Mommy”, for his independent album (the songs never made the cut).
In June of 2000, she joined yet another all girl group, hoping to take this one to the next level. Because of lack of time, the group was not able to stand together and Isheena was left once more with the disappointment of yet other failed attempt.
In November 2000 she went on to form other group with Iisha, and adding newcomers, Jessica and Britney, this time changing the name to White Ebony. They lasted 5 months, writing and recording music. But in March 2001, one member decided music wasn’t for her and left the group. Not able to recover, the they spilt up, leaving only Isheena with the drive to keep going.
Fed up with groups, Isheena decided to stay solo, dropping the White and re-inventing herself as Ebony. Not to confident about her voice, she took voice lesson from home.
In July of 2001, Isheena aka Ebony started her solo career. Starting to write and record music, she went to work on her first album The Art of Music. During this time she also started working with LO-Key, another unsigned rapper recording three songs, “Stop Hating On Me”, Chi-Town” and “Tears, which she co-wrote.
But in August she lost her studio, and once again had to start from the ground up. Not willing to give up, she decided to record and produce her own music right from her computer. So she set out to find software, and started her album once again. This time not letting anything come between her and music.
Recording her first song “We Gon Party” in September, she released it, as her first single to the public, via the Internet. The song, which is also featured on, BET.com, MP3.com, and Hit Mix Uk.com, became a hit. Gaining her a small fan base and recognition from other unsigned artist.
October 2001, Isheena was given a deal from a local label, where she started to re-record her album, The Art Of Music, as well as sing hooks for other artists. But due to lack of communication, Isheena left the label. Because of her ups and downs, Isheena started an online promotional team with Lisa head of her personal street team, to help other unsigned artists with web design, online and offline promotion.
In January 2002 hard work paid off, taking nearly a year to complete, Isheena successful finished her first independent album The Art Music.
Since she and the album had been through changes, she decided that it was time to change her name for good. Growing, musically and personal, she wanted a name that summed who she was inside and what her music stood for. So she chose Isheena, her birth name.

Press Reviews
Single Review: Anyone
It seems strange to review and clique an unsigned artist. No matter what a free lance writer like myself has to say it will make little or no difference in the out come of this young woman’s career.
As far as unsigned artist go Isheena Murphy is one of the best you’ll find on the web. Writing and performing original music, she already stands out as one the few that may make it.
When I came across Anyone, written and sang by Isheena Murphy I decided to take a listen. What I heard was disappointing and impressive at the same time.
Anyone, is a cracking R&B song letting a boyfriend know that material things won’t impress or excite her (“ I don‘t need your credit cards to know that you’re my man“).
The clever lyrics are catchy and will have your singing along in no time. While Isheena’s vocals will have you wanting more. The music to this song is out of this world, mixing hip-hop, with old Chinese flavor.
Although the song is nice and Isheena has proven that she can hold her own. The recording is very poor. The mixing is well done, but the low budget used to create the track shows.
Anyone is a clever and creative song and I have to admit one that I have purchased. My advice to Isheena, If you want to make it in this buz, invests a little more money into your craft*
