Artist History Of Japanese and Korean descent, Nari Matsuura is a pianist known for her stunning virtuosity and insightful artistry. A graduate of the Juilliard School, she has performed all over her native Canada as well as the United States in such venues as The Montreal International Piano Festival at The Place des Arts, the Canadian Embassy in Washington D.C., and Weill Recital Hall in New York City. She has also toured extensively in both countries under the auspices of Jenesses Musicales and Community Concerts. Winner of numerous competitions, including the Frinna Awerbuch International Piano Competition in New York, and the International Stepping Stone of the Canadian music Competitions, Ms. Matsuura is also a proponent of new music, having won prizes for her interpretations of pieces by Canadian composers Jacques Hétu and Alexina Louie. She is heard frequently on CBC Radio, and was recently broadcast nationwide for a recital at the National Arts Center in Ottawa. She has also been awarded numerous grants from the Canada Council and the Ontario Arts Council. This concert was recorded at Barnes Hall at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY on May 26, 2001.
