Artist description
A multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, the songs here
are all written and performed by Bert in a small home
studio using a home built PC-daw setup. The banjo on heard
on, "It Still Means A Lot To Me" is one of Bert's creations
as well. Bert plays both acoustic electric guitar, electric
and acoustic bass, banjo, sax, Irish tin whistle, some
keyboards, and various percussioninstruments. Styles
covered in live performance history include, pop,
country, rock, bluegrass, '40's swing, reggae, folk,
Christian/Praise & Worship, brass band,
& percussion emnsemble.
Recently, performing has been de-emphasized and songwriting/
recording has become the focus for Bert and his wife Kenya Lee.
Look for lots of new songs and lots of variety from this pair. |

Music Style
This is hard to say. Pop, Country, Christian, Bluegrass, acoustic fingerstyle guitar instrumental, reggae are all part of my discography. |
 |
Musical Influences
Starting with songwriters chronologically: Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, John Lennon, Jackson Browne, Don Henley, James Taylor, Wayne Kirkpatrick. While there are more these represent the core influence on my writing. |
 |
Similar Artists
Depends on the song/style. I hear similarities to vintage Jackson Browne, Eagles, CSN on some songs; John Denver, on some of the country. |

Artist History
Born in central VA, first live performances were school bands.
Playing saxophone in several highschool garage bands followed.
At 17, stringed instruments entered Bert's life by way of the
acoustic guitar. The music of Simon and Garfunkel were a huge love and
influence at the time. Within a couple of years, banjo was
added. Nine years of living and breathing Bluegrass music followed,
culminating in the recording of two albums with the local group,
'J C Hale and the Blu Fescue.' A year with George Winn followed.
It was then that Bert decided to form a new group outside of the
strickly Bluegrass genre. A chance meeting with John Boyles proved
fortuitious in getting this accomplished. After months of work
and a couple of false starts, 'Unstrung Heroes' emerged. Veteran
bassist and lyric tenor John Shifflett completed the trio which
played extensively in the area using a format which is today is
commonly referred to as 'unplugged'. Later a veteran drummer
Greg Comstock was added and the group specialized in vocal
oriented material from a variety of genres. No commercial
recordings were attempted and little original material was
used. ( Look for a CD of original material from this band
in the near future )
Bert has concentrated on songwriting in the last several years
and is now actively recording original songs for himself,
Unstrung Heroes and his wife Kenya Lee.
