    Artist description
****Steve Doss, one of the original members of the band, is a "blues" guitarist at heart, leaving many guitarist in the area-- --in the dust--but with the Meerkatz original compositions, he has concentrated on writing totally abstract pumped rock songs, some with a "faint blues aura" …and guitar licks that tend to leave jaws -- on the ground! He has shared the stage with BB King, and various other "blues" artists. Steve has supplied the opening act for National acts such as Blue Oyster Cult, Mountain and Eric Burden. He lives in Alexandria Virginia and works at a major music store as a sound technician along with a sound business on the side "GOD (GoOd Ol'DuDeS) Productions". In his off time, Steve enjoys finding underground treasures and creating music. ****Patty Brannan composes lyrics and melody to music which transform into "Pumped-IN YOUR FACE" Rock and Roll. Her influence goes back to High School Choirs, Solo Performances at Concerts, a trip to Yankee Stadium for performing "The National Antham", tenor II in a renissance choir, a hula dance with Don Ho in downtown Waikiki, Hawaii and 23 years of jammin' with various bands, mainly as "tambourine girl" in her husbands Southern Rock Band. She came out from under that "wing" forming her own band with her own sound as she founded "The Meerkatz" and concentrates in this band, (not allowed this luxury or expansion in past groups) on her 'SONG WRITING ABILITY (yes, a bit of "bitterness" there) and she and Steve Doss, the original members of the Meerkatz have been collaborating now since Fall of '97,-- still continue to learn each others styles and moods-and both still DEFINITELY PROVE they have the luxury to whip out song after song and put the "Meerkatz" unique and DIFFERERNT "slant/improvisation" to each and every composition. Patty has supplied the opening act for National acts such as Molly Hatchett, Outlaws, Steppenwolf, Brian Howell, Blackfoot, Blue Oyster Cult, Eric Burden, and Mountain. Steve and Patty are known for their wild style with music and words, from their "ballads" * see 'US" to "WILD HORSES SMOKIN UP THE SKY" *see "Crunch". Patty lives in Woodbrige, VA and has worked for the Navy Department 23 years modernizing SSN Class Attack Submarines since 2 weeks out of High School. On her off time, Patty enjoys composing music, and trying to Learn/perfect her keyboards. ****Art Brannan, the most recent member of the "Meerkatz" comes in as a strong, pumped lead bass guitar which adds a distinct and harmonal mix to the lead guitarist resulting in a unique bottom end sound for the Katz. Art has the ability to play a bass lead to the guitar lead and the mixture of the two 'experts" is AMAZING!!! Arts PASSION is with the bass guitar, although he writes and records his own songs, playing ALL instruments himself. The man is amazing. Steve has the exact same talent. The two make for a "HERENDOUS" team!! ART has perfomed with National Acts such as Lynrd Skynrd, Molly Hatchett, Outlaws, Steppenwolf, Brian Howell, and Blackfoot..... *quickie note from Patty "I love jammin' with my husband again with this new found RESPECT we have for each other!! ****Allen Sobol, also a more recent member, adds a strong-off beat drum and rhythm section that shows quite an "Attitude".. It makes for awesome drums!! Allen has jammed with numerous bands in the Northern Viginia area since age 13, among them Tempest and Mindscape in the late '80s/early 90's. He studied at PIT in Los Angeles before joining such acts as Maxfield Rabbit and Uluteka. His credits include studio sessions w/ David Beyer from Melissa Etheridge's band, and engineer Micheal Dumas (guitars and cadillacs fame, Dwight Yoakam) where he sat in with two former members of the Bangles. He returned to his home in Northern Virginia and joined the Meerkatz in July of 2000. Allen currently lives in Carolina where his family resides. He has a lawn business there, and commutes to Virginia anytime the Katz get a chance and place to "Kick out the Jams". On Allens off time, he enjoys 'hanging low'.. **The Katz have only practiced a hand full of times with the new members over the past 2 years ....but continue to jam shows and record CDs, somehow!?!?!? Once, they start to actually practice like other groups....look out! *******The 4 KATZ just recently performed for the POST PRESIDENTIAL-GALA put on for the whitehouse staff members and various donors that contributed and helped organize the PRESIDENTIAL GALA which raised over 30 Million for the Repulican Party. The MeerKatz played "the party after the party" in Washington DC and rocked the St. Regis Hotel in May 2002!*****Also Channel 10 Fairfax VA Cable Showtimes forthcoming!!*****

    Musical Influences
We have tried and succeeded in creating our own 'original' style, we'd like to think.. but all 4 Katz together have been influenced by various artists such as Heart, Scandal, Pat Benatar, Frank Marino, Cream, Eric Clapton, Blue Oyster Cult, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Bonnie Reitt, Melissa Ethridge, Alice Cooper, Motley Crew, Seattle Rock Artists, Grand Funk, Pat Benatar, and many, many blues artists to mention a few...
    Similar Artists
Difficult to pin point just who The Meerkatz sound like, although feedback from our shows depict Heart, Candlebox, Jefferson Airplane, Alice Cooper, Cream , Pat Benatar, Alanis Morsette
    Artist History
The Common Ground within the Meerkatz has been Steve Doss (lead guitar) and Patty Brannan (vocalist, keyboards). Steve has managed to compose a generous 23 original songs for Patty to set into lyric and melody motion, 9 of which are :complete: even though other members have come and gone within the last 5 years, total disruption setting in, ....Steve and Patty still write, and with the newest two members-- Allen and Art-- our songs now hold the EXPERIENCED PUMP they needed, as they reach out at ya, grab you in, and leave your wanting more! What stories we have!! Someday, this section may be updated to reveal more about this bands past, way more, to understand Patty's "stories behind the songs".......but for now, we'lll keep it short and sweet.....THE MEERKATZ ARE FINALLY RIGHT!!! ...& we look forward to posting many new tunes real soon! Patty "Ma'Kat' Brannan

    Press Reviews
MP3 Artists review of "The Meerkatz" " CRUNCH" wails with a sixties San Francisco psychedelia. Patty's vocals bring both Grace Slick and Heart's famous sister singers immediately to mind, catching that need for familiarity. The ear is lured into an easy, seventies relaxing rock euphoria. "Take a trip on Trans Love Airways and enjoy the warm San Francisco nights" The Meerkatz songs suggest.---------------04-28-02------MP3Artists The Meerkatz have supplied the opening act for the following groups: ERIC BURDEN, BLUE OYSTER CULT, and MOUNTAIN May 2002 - played for Post presidential GALA party in Washington DC June 3rd 2002 - taping for performance on Fairfax channel "10"... to perform 4 Meerkat Original Compositions
    Additional Info
We would like to thank Danny for allowing us to hold jam sessions in his house-on this awesome Mountain. You believe..we hold that thought dear to our hearts. Thanks also to Frannie, Wallace and Boo for without them, the Meerkatz would not exist.. A special thank you, also to Steve and Lainey, fellow musicians, SOULKITTY6, who have supported our cause-friendship means everything! .....and one last special "personal" thanks from Patty to Jay Nedrey who has always leant that "shoulder" when I've needed to air my frustrations!
