Artist History
Jon Rhoten, age 28, and Alex Martinez, age 29, spent 3 years trying to put together a serious band. Finally, they realized that to go anywhere with their music, their focus needed to be in building a studio for themselves. Hence, Magnifier was formed.
Magnifier has been playing in Southern California since 1997. Jon, who owns a Protools Mix3 TDM recording system, began working with Alex to develop the overall sound for Magnifier. The music has a 60's influence with modern Powerpop flavor. The combination of Jon and Alex's influences proved to be what was needed for the finalization of Magnifier.
Magnifier has currently 29 songs in their playlist on MP3.com. Magnifier is constantly receiving genre recommendation by MP3.com. The songs Coming Down, Lost, Jessica and Home Noise Re-mix has been featured on MP3.com’s main feature page and 10 of their 29 songs has been on the top 20.
Magnifier received great reviews. Make a Star has quoted “You’ve got a great sense of layering. The production has nice dynamics, it's clear and full.”, “It sounds like this track is influenced by "Radio Head" but you do retain your own identity, you are much more pop. I think this is a good direction for you.”, “The arrangement and production is very strong. You use great instrumentation with beautiful lush sweeping guitar melodies. You achieve a full sound with great dynamics that hold you right to the end.”
Chinchilla Music said, “Whilst Britpop officially died about 4 years ago there are still many bands out there peddling it's chirpy, poppy rock styling.. Magnifier are an above average example, with nice solid guitar parts, the occasional Hammond organ, clear harmonies and sing-a-long choruses, the perfect combination for their chosen genre.”
With their recent success on MP3.com and high reviews from Make A Star, Magnifier is definitely headed in the right direction. |
