    Artist description
“deepnoia” is a electronic music creation nucleus, from Vila Nova de Gaia – Portugal. Presently, it is solo, but counting with external colaborations every so often. It is possible to identify in deepnoia´s compositions the contibution of various musical tendencies, from Breakbeat to Electro, from Drum´n´Bass to House, from Hip to Trip-Hop, from Big Beat to Techno. That´s beacuse the author has, either as influence or reference, sounds from such different fields as those occupied by Leftfield, Underworld, Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Kruder&Dorfmeister, Fatboy Slim, Três Tristes Tigres, Diva, Cool Hipnoise, Da Weasel and Mind da Gap.deepnoia´s sound is like that… anchored in electronic textures, wrapped in simplicity and low-profile, regardlessly of the beats´ cataloguing. In their stenght – or even in their frequent violence – resides the projects´ essential element: the one around wich the tracks are built and then surface. Hence the name of the demo series in perspective: "Rhythmica".

    Artist History
@ 1994/1998 – Generation1994 - "deepnoia", a one-man-only project, finds its´ remote origins in this year. In the begining, it was just a group of friends who would gather to record vocal “sketches” about urban caos and drug addiction. The “studio” was a Commodore Amiga 1200.1994 and 1995 – The musical project really started to gain definition, but then under the name "Black Velvet Butterfly".1997 – The year in wich "deepnoia" was born, both while designation and musical power.1998 – The project was presented by the hand of (nowadays) journalist, (always) radio show host and (more and more) modern portuguese music crtitic, Nuno Monteiro, on "Tratado de Tordesilhas" – nacional music cult radio show, broadcasted by Rádio Globo Azul, from the city of Espinho. Such presentation took place with the k7 recordings, "Cosmic Spasm" (February), and "A Fuga" (July) – the last one was totally aired in a full hour dedicated to deepnoia, wich included an interview. Such recordings were true prototypes, since they never even got to be have copies.1999 – During this year, there almost was no musical production, due to a series of breakdowns in the equipment and given the lack of time caused by studying.@ 2000 – BirthA strong return, with the various "Rhythmica" sessions, in antecipation of a forseeable first “definitive” recording. It would predictably count with voice, bass, guitar and keys colaborations, and was suposed to be recorded until the end of this year (wich never happened). In the middle of August, the demo Rhythmica#1 is launched. It came up, maybe in a premature birth, because there was the urgent need to start hearing echoes of the name “deepnoia”, at the same time in wich one tried to give away clues to what could be done in the future. This first calling card, in CD-R format, included 5 tracks – among wich were "Full Flava Mueli" and "Cool Like That", tracks that achieved relative frenzy. Its´ distribution was very very limited (about 15 copies!). The distribution/management is passed over to the newly-born Rhythmica Productions, new portuguese bands´ promotion “label”, managed by Nuno Monteiro.Simultaneously to the disclosure of that first demo, there was a huge imlantation of the “deepnoia” project on the internet. That was assured by the creation of a site (im September) and by the registration in multiple means of band promotion. [Today, deepnoia´s cybernetic presence in Portugal is very visible]The "Ritual Nacional" radio show on NFM Porto, provides great prominence to the demo Rhythmica#1.Rhythmica#1 is the “weekend demo” in the "Santos da Casa" radio show on RUC, having been distinguished the track "Cool Like That".In November, the track “Cool Like That” appears in fourth place on the playlist from the ".pt" radio show, hosted in RUM radio. In December, both the “.pt” and the “Ritual Nacional” radio shows elect the demo Rhythmica#1 as one of the best in 2000!@ 2001 – GrowthRhythmica#2 is out (begining of April), in a not so distant future from "Rhythmica#1", and in wich the compositions are more strong and mature, with more character, and, we hope, with enough potencial to satisfy the spectations created by the first demo. There still is diversity of sonorities, from fat beats to low-tempo moments, trough more "housy" sounds. Always "big shakes”!Goal #2 is to give the project true mediatic exposure.

    Press Reviews
“(...) very surprising, not only for it´s quality, but also for the simplicity with wich that quality is demonstrated. Without big artefacts, deepnoia crosses the electronic music vertically. Mixing various styles of beats, from “fat”/hip-hop (…) to more danceable breakbeat, deepnoia shows a diversified and very interesting work. (…)”“In conclusion, this demo [Rhythmica#1] is a sample of a project that we consider one of the best in our countries´ electronic music.” -- José Alves, host of the “.pt” radio show on RUM radio “the ideas are there, accompanied by the pretty obviuos potencial”“I wouldn´t be surprised if he did impressive stuff.” -- Jorge Baldaia, on the www.123som.com (a portuguese garage bands website)
