In a great display of versatility Ant's style reminds me of both the Pixies and Cake, which for my money is an amazing combination. -Davin (Anthony Williamson) on 30/Aug/2000 - mp3.com.au (AUSTRALIAN VERSION OF MP3.COM) |

Artist History
Ant Keogh is the singer and songwriter of "The Antfarm".Ant is mostly Australian except for his left leg and right arm, which are Hungarian. His foot is possibly Romanian. Romania is where vampires come from. Ant is not a vampire though. He only killed someone and drank their blood once, and that was a total accident. Ant used to be a lead guitarist from the age of 15 and, as a reaction to that, there are no lead guitar solos on the album. "Lead guitar is just silly," he professes.Nicky Bomba is a drummer and plays keyboards. "Nicky only has to play a song once or twice and he can do it perfectly," says Ant. "The song you hear on this website, was the first drum take, I think… then I did my part about two hundred times." Tony Ryan is a bass player. The less said about him the better.Ant says, "Super Heavy Duty Man is the heaviest song on the album… most of the other songs are more odd ball. " We're putting the song "Bear Mountain Date Rape" on the website as a free download, because it got to number 5 on some internet chart. It's a song about the fear a small town I once visited. I talked to this guy who told me he liked to take girls homein his car boot. I didn't like that town much. "The song is anti-violent, if you listen to the words - but it's still spooky."Antfarm sounds decidedly lo-fi. "That comes from a process of elimination," says Ant. "When I take out everything I don't like, then I'm left with this." "It's musical spring cleaning… I'm killing fleas on a proverbial musical-hamster… It's music for the reality-impaired."Also check out: www.antfarmmusic.com |

Group Members
Ant is Ant Keogh, singer and songwriter of the band which has three core members: Ant Keogh, Nicky Bomba and Tony Ryan. Ant Keogh is But other secret people are also involved. Some of them can't even play instruments. "For example", says Ant, "Clayton Jacobson is very handy with a film camera so I knew he would have to be on the album. My grandmother is also a very fine knitter… scarves and jumpers mostly. She is also sampled in one of the songs. Nick Cummins plays harmonica, Chris Copping also - he programs stuff. So does Chris Arkley Smith (Frontside). Actually Chris is great on a Mac. Chris also likes working with bikini babes which, I think, is valuable." "He's constantly teaching me stuff", says Ant. |

Press Reviews
ANT'S "BEAR MOUNTAIN DATE RAPE":Review: From the very first chord you cant help thinking that this tune has real anthemic qualities reminiscent of Nirvana's Smells like Teen Spirit. Bear Mountain Date Rape is a short song at just over two minutes, however quality in this instance far outweigh quantity. In a great display of versatility Antfarm's style reminds me of both the Pixies and Cake, which for my money is an amazing combination. This track has a hook that you could hang a truck on and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if this was the song that launched their commercial success. Not content to throw in some distorted guitar and call it a day, they have given this piece some real dynamic structure without placing vocals, drums or guitars in the background. If this is the formula they choose to follow I can't wait to hear what they produce next. Great Song Great Lyrics Great Work -Davin (Anthony Williamson) on 30/Aug/2000 - mp3.com.au (AUSTRALIAN VERSION OF MP3.COM) |
