Artist description
If soul is the expression of the spirit or essence of a person or place, then Altar Native create the music of Cumbria’s soul. Natural sounds from hollow trees, water splashes and slate are transformed as electronic percussive samples and looped ambient resonance to accompany the dynamic vibrancy of Mark Newport’s superb electro-acoustic fiddle and David Camlin’s rock steady acoustic guitar and heartfelt vocals. This is intelligent music that enthrals attentive listeners and excites dancing feet. It is ambient and dynamic, and at times trance-like. It is today’s roots music. The Sounds of Cumbria's Roots!Altar Native have been developing and experimenting with the eclectic elements of their music since inception in 1998. Appreciative audiences range from modern young global groovers to dyed -in- the wool folkies. |
