Artist description
Abulum, Glen’s debut album as a solo artist, reflects his darkly comic attitude as he began writing his own second act. This new collection of songs continues many of Glen’s favorite plotlines: dysfunctional relationships, economic meltdown, biological warfare. Glen is a pessimist (he would say realist) with the saving grace of a humorist; Abulum makes you smile even when it stabs at your heart. |

Artist History
Glen Phillips began his career at the age of 14 as lead vocalist and lyricist of what was then a garage band called Toad The Wet Sprocket. Over the next 13 years, Glen and his band-mates released six albums (including the platinum-certified albums Fear and Dulcinea), charted with the hits “All I Want,” “Walk on the Ocean,” “Good Intentions,” and “Fall Down,” and toured relentlessly (playing almost a thousand shows), selling close to four million records. In 1997, Toad The Wet Sprocket died of natural causes. Glen Phillips was 27 years old. Although Toad itself was never in fashion with the critics, their devoted fans found something deeper in the band and, in particular, their boyish lead singer, Glen Phillips.Already a rock veteran with a decade-long career of successful albums, Glen was forced to ask himself uneasy questions about how he would proceed with his life. “It’s been an intense period of time. I was excited about the future, about doing something new for the first time in my adult life, but I was also freaking out. I’d assumed that I could just pick up where I left off. It was bizarre to watch that machine just grind to a halt, and have to start up again on my own steam. I realized just how lucky I’d been. I don’t think I’ll be taking so many things for granted this time around.” |
