“Fred Meyers,” the album’s first single, depicts the quintessential Glen Phillips fixation: post-apocalyptic America. The homeless masses have now become squatters inside former big-box stores (in this case a Fred Meyers, between the Costco and the Barnes & Noble). But in Glen’s vision, this isn’t the setting for futuristic misery; it’s the prototype of a new social fabric. |
