Ensemble Elektra under the leadership of violinist, Elektra Kurtis, consists of musicians from diverse cultural backgrounds. The music is World Jazz Fusion - a contemporary blend of jazz, rock and traditional music derived from Greek, Egyptian, Latin, Eastern European and American roots. The repertoire of original compositions and arrangements features driving bass lines, odd time signatures and improvised taxims (solos). |

Elektra Kurtis formed Ensemble Elektra in 1989 in New York. It was first a trio, then a quartet. Now it is a quintet or sextet and includes Egyptian and African dancers. |
