Artist History
Noel was on the New York jazz scene for 10 yearsduring the 70's and 80's. Those were heady timesindeed: The resurgence of jazz in the new and old clubs as well as the loft jazz scene. Working with his group New Life Jazz, Noel played with some of today's great players (drummers Al Foster and Billy Higgins, pianists Fred Hersch, Mike Abene, and Mike Wolff, … the list goes on). Though reviews applauded his tenor and soprano playing and freshness in his compositions, he decided to leave New York and sail off to the Caribbean to settle in the Dominican Republic. There he played with an international group of musicians in the local clubs and on TV. The New Life Jazz band recorded precious little material during the years in New York. There were two live recordings done at Sweet Basil in the village and Paulson's uptown, and one studio recording date entitled Lighter Than Air. Neither of the live recordings has yet to surface, but selections from the studio date have recently beenmade available and are here for listeners to appreciate. Take a listen to this fresh sound and enjoy it! |
